Due to the ongoing war and political instability in these countries, the Korban process will be slightly different this year in Sudan, to ensure safe and smooth implementation of our programme.
In Sudan, Korban will be implemented in safer states, such as Blue Nile, Gedaref, and North Kordofan. Our team in Sudan have a long-standing presence in these regions and were successfully able to deliver food packs in these states this past Ramadan.
Our field office staff in Sudan are familiar with local issues and challenges, enabling them to effectively implement mitigation measures if any issues arise.
Giving Korban (a sacrifice) is a sacred act of worship highly encouraged by Allah (SWT). While it is recommended to split your Korban between yourself, your family, your friends and those in need, many Muslims instead prefer to have their Korban performed in some of the world’s most vulnerable communities. When you donate your Korban to Islamic Relief, we distribute all three parts to those in need.
Our Quality Assured Korban programme provides meat, an essential resource for many, to thousands of disadvantaged families in Sudan, whose only meat source this year will be your Korban donation.
With your support, in 2024 Islamic Relief was able to carry out 5,222 Korbanis, reaching 74,600 people in Sudan, Alhamdullilah.
Sudan falls into category Group C, which includes Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Philippines, South Africa and South Sudan.
It is advisable to give as early as possible. At Islamic Relief, we strive to implement the Korban sacrifice over 3 days (10th to 12th Dhul Hijjah).

It is essential that the slaughter is carried out humanely following Korban rules.
Each of our field offices across the world takes careful measures to ensure that the slaughtering of the animals is carried out locally and humanely, and according to Korban rules.
Below are some of the rules that should be followed:
A sharp knife must be used to carry out the Korban – dull knives may inflict unnecessary pain and suffering.
Knives must not be sharpened in front of the sacrificial animal.
No animal can be slaughtered in front of another animal.
When the sacrifice is being made, the words “Bismillah Allahu Akbar” must be recited.
The animal cannot be skinned until the body is entirely cold.
Our Islamic Relief field office in Sudan source and purchase local livestock and is responsible for the slaughtering locally. After the animal has been sacrificed, its meat is then distributed to those most in need.
If there are issues with livestock supply in Sudan, or in any particular country (due to limited local supply, natural disaster etc.), then animals are sourced and slaughtered abroad, and then shipped to the affected countries. All animals are sacrificed according to Islamic guidelines.

Each day, the people of Sudan’s poorest communities battle with dire living conditions. The meat that many receive because of your generous Korban donations may be the only source of meat they eat this year.
The country is at imminent risk of collapsing after more than one year of violent conflict, and it is on the verge of mass famine with its food supply decimated and young children now starving to death in its cities, villages, and displacement camps.
Around 27,000 people are confirmed killed, including at least 50 aid workers, but the death toll from hunger, disease and lack of basic services could rise far higher. Additionally, 14 million people – 53% of them children – have been forced to flee their homes. Many are living in temporary camps where conditions are abysmal.
