Eziah is a widow living in Sana’a, Yemen, with her 7 children. She makes her living teaching the Qur’an at a mosque but struggles meet her family’s needs amid the ongoing conflict in her country.

“I used to provide my family with food and meet all of their needs. My only source of income is my salary [but] my son helps me,” Eziah says, explaining that one of her sons uses his motorcycle to make money.

Despite their best efforts, paying rent can be a challenge for the family. Eziah says accessing food, clean drinking water, health services and gas to use at home are also concerns.

“Food shortages affects one’s health, so whenever we face food shortages our health deteriorates – but Alhamdulillah, our living conditions are somewhat stable – My children sometimes feel sick due to shortages in some vitamins in their bodies and this is a negative effect of poor nutrition.

“During Ramadan, we wake up early for suhoor, pray, read the Qur’an, and prepare iftar. Thanks to Allah, Ramadan is a month of goodness and blessings, fasting, praying, worshipping Allah and reading the Qur’an.

“The food parcel we received from Islamic Relief is a relief for us during this blessed month of Ramadan.”

Eziah’s family is among almost 9,000 that received a Ramadan food parcel from Islamic Relief last year. Amid challenging conditions, we helped to lessen the burden faced by the people of Yemen during the holy month.

This Ramadan you can help us reach even more vulnerable people. Please don’t wait, people need your help more than ever. Donate food packs in the blessed month of Ramadan.
