Famine-like conditions are threatening over 43 countries worldwide

A global hunger crisis has been rapidly engulfing regions across the globe. Millions of children, women, men, and elders in some of the world’s most vulnerable communities highly at risk.

The combined effect of four failed rainy seasons has pushed parts of Kenya, Somalia and Ethiopia to the brink. As a result, livestock have died, forcing people to leave their homes and increasing levels of child malnutrition. The Russian invasion has exacerbated the situation, pushing up the price of staples such as wheat and sunflower oil, as well as fuel.

Since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, the number of people of suffering from hunger and food insecurity has more than doubled. An astonishing 811 million were undernourished and food insecure in 2021. The situation is continuing to worsen with famine-like conditions threatening over 43 countries worldwide.

The current is situation

Climate disasters such as extreme droughts are causing famine in East Africa. Furthermore, ongoing conflicts such as those in Afghanistan and Yemen, together with the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, have put major strains on populations who are already facing severe food insecurity.

The Russia-Ukraine conflict has pushed millions beyond the initial crisis into dire circumstances. With global prices for food and fuel soaring, this impacts the most vulnerable communities first.

You have the power to prevent this situation from deteriorating. Please donate to our global hunger emergency appeal now.

Islamic Relief is on the ground providing life-saving aid

Islamic Relief are on the ground working to support thousands of people across AfghanistanEthiopia, and Yemen. We are providing life-saving food and non-food parcels, containing flour, oil, pulses, rice, sugar, and salt. Our mobile health units provide remote and displaced communities with the only source of healthcare available. Hygiene and sanitation kits and training are essential for preventing disease outbreak.

Crucially, Islamic Relief is also working to provide long-term support to those in need, but we need your help. To tackle food insecurity, we need your support to help innovating programmes supporting thousands, including orphans, who rely on humanitarian organisations to provide the aid that they desperately need during this crisis.

Without your help, the food crisis will continue to reach unprecedented levels, and many vulnerable people will face the consequences.

Afghanistan: Our teams on the ground have distributed 13,061 food packs to the most vulnerable families in Kabul, Nangarhar, Balkh, Bamiyan, and Kapisa provinces. Qurbani meat distributions to over 10,000 families have also been carried out.
