The rewards of Laylatul Qadr are immense. In the Holy Qur’an, Allah The Most Merciful, describes The Night of Power:

Indeed, We sent the Qur’an down during the Night of Decree And what can make you know what is the Night of Decree? The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months. The angels and the Spirit descend therein by permission of their Lord for every matter. Peace it is until the emergence of dawn.

Qur’an | 97:1-5

Performing acts of worship such as Nafl (voluntary) prayers, Sadaqah and Du’a can earn you bountiful rewards, but when performed on The Night of Power, with sincere intention and faith in Allah’s (SWT) acceptance, the rewards could be exceptional.

Giving Zakat or Sadaqah during Ramadan is multiplied by 70 times, and the reward for any righteous act is equivalent to having performed that same deed every day for 83 years, SubhanAllah!

In a famous hadith it is narrated:

“Whoever prays on Laylatul Qadr out of faith and sincerity, shall have all their past sins forgiven.”  (Bukhari and Muslim)

Make the most of the blessed night

If the Night of Qadr was some night during the entire year, I’d stand in night prayer the entire year to get it. So what do you suppose should be done for merely ten nights?

Ibn Qayyim (Badaai Al Fawaid)

Our Prophet (peace be upon him) advised us to maximise the benefit of the holy night and to not be heedless of its value and importance. The best deeds to perform in order to reap the rewards of the holy night are fasting, praying, seeking repentance and giving Sadaqah. Spend time reflecting on the past year

Laylatul Qadr is a precious gift from Allah (SWT), and the most beneficial night of the year for us. It’s a time of seeking Allah (SWT)’s pleasure, seeking forgiveness and gaining purification. Also known as the night of decree, and considered by some scholars as the night in which our destiny is written for the year ahead, it’s important to remember that we do not know what is written for us in the coming year, and whether we will be blessed with another Laylatul Qadr again. Therefore, it is important to make the most of such blessed occasions and reap as much reward as we can for our Hereafter.

It’s also important to reflect on the past year since the previous Laylatul Qadr. We should hold ourselves to account in terms of how much of our time and efforts we spent for Allah (SWT), mistakes we made, and decisions we took, as well as reflecting on our character. We should use this as a basis for aiming to improve ourselves and our lives, and making the intention of striving even harder in the coming year and gaining Allah (SWT)’s pleasure.

May Allah Almighty accept and reward us for our efforts this Laylatul Qadr, and allow it to be the means of our purification and increased nearness to Him. Ameen!
