In Mali, communities continue to lack safe supplies of water.

In fact, 20% of people do not have access to a clean supply of water. That’s 1 in 5 people.

What’s more, in rural areas, this figure rises to 30%.

In villages like Mamiri where 42-year-old Fatoumata lives, this was once a daily reality.

Fatoumata: Enjoying a safe water source

Fatoumata from Mali.

Fatoumata is a housewife with four children. In her village, there were two manually operated pumps that often broke down.

These points didn’t cover the needs of the village and things became a lot more when displaced families migrated to their village who also needed a safe, clean source of water.

Fatoumata felt sorry for the women who would have to get up every day at impossible hours, carrying their children on their backs in search of water.

This is where we stepped in. We provided a new water supply for the whole community.

Now, Fatoumata feels great relief and happiness. She isn’t afraid to go out to look for drinking water because there is a water point just ten meters from her house.

Alhamdulillah, waterborne diseases have greatly decreased and the family spends less money on medical bills.

Now we enjoy life because water is available at all times close to our homes. We no longer need to rush or wait in long queues.

We can only say thank you to Islamic Relief and its brave donors. May God reward them. (Fatoumata)

Thank you for supporting Fatoumata’s village, providing a much-needed supply of water.

Thank you for changing lives.
