Islamic Relief’s Orphan Sponsorship Programme supports the caregivers of children who have lost 1 or both of their parents. The family receive a regular stipend to cover the costs of children’s basic needs and education, and they often benefit from additional interventions such as help with healthcare and food distributions.
The programme is improving the lives of children like Asma* from Pakistan, who lost her father in a car accident when she was just 3 years old.
Further tragedy struck when she lost her mother 2 years later. She and her 2 sisters were then taken to live with their aunt in a different city.
Grieving and overwhelmed by so much change in such a short period of time, Asma found it difficult to adjust to her new life. Her aunt helped her settle into her new environment but could not afford to send her to school.
Then, Asma was enrolled in Islamic Relief’s Orphan Sponsorship Programme. Now able to go to school, Asma is beginning to put down new roots at last.
“I like this school a lot. I enjoy going to school because I like my teachers and I have friends here. We study and play together”, says Asma.
