Vital Aid for flood-hit Sudanese Communities

Across Sudan, ongoing heavy rain and flooding have affected 90,000 families and damaged or destroyed 75,000 homes. Islamic Relief’s emergency response continues.

In Khartoum’s Omdurman district we have distributed plastic sheeting, blankets and sleeping mats to 3,000 people in Elikhlas village. We distributed a further 152 hygiene kits, 304 mosquito nets and 204 mattresses to families of orphans.

In Ombada’s Gabarona district, Islamic Relief distributed 225 hygiene kits, 450 mosquito nets and 450 mattresses to 225 families affected by the floods.

Almost 400 families in the East Nile villages of Eltumam, Eldalo, and Elargoob have received hygiene kits, mosquito nets and blankets. In Jabal Awlia, 449 families in the Mayo district received hygiene packs, mosquito nets and sleeping mattresses.

In Blue Nile State we joined forces with the government to bring 15 hand-pumps back into use in Ed Damazine and El Rosaries – giving about 10,200 people access to safe water. Three thousand people in Ed Damazine also benefited from supplies of cleaning tools and soap to the Ministry of Health.

In the coming days, Islamic Relief will distribute hygiene kits, mattresses and mosquito nets to 267 families in the Nifasha district of Ombada.

Sudan is the first country that Islamic Relief worked in, responding to a famine in 1984. Since then, we have expanded significantly to work in Khartoum, Blue Nile, Darfur, North Kordofan and South Sudan.
