Fadheelah, Hodeida, Yemen
Fadheelah is a single mother, she has five children and is the sole breadwinner in the family. Along with her children she is living through one of the worst humanitarian situations in the world.
Millions of people in Yemen are living on the brink of starvation, many of them are internally displaced, many have lost their homes, livelihoods, and the lives of their loved ones.
When battles broke out in Hodeida, she was forced to flee and abandon all they own in order to survive the violent skirmishes. She remembers, “warplanes and missiles falling in surrounding areas” as they fled.
She fled with her family to nearby district, upon her arrival the local residents did their best to help them. “They provide us with clothes, kitchen utensils, and food.” However, this could only be sustained for a short period of time due to the sheer number of people fleeing to the district in order to find safety.
Her children were all forced to abandon their schooling and though they try to find casual work they struggled to find food.
Islamic Relief was able provide her family with food packs to alleviate some of their suffering. They now had enough staple foods to help them survive.
