Musa, 11, Mandera County, Northern Kenya

Musa is lives in a small, traditional hut with his mother and siblings. Musa’s father passed away when he was two years old, his mother has had to look after all four of her children alone since then.

His mother started a small business selling tomatoes, but this has not always helped make ends meet, the family often stayed hungry as they had nothing to eat.

Their home is built out of mud, straw and thatch. It does not provide any real protection from adverse weather conditions and has no access to running water. They often ask for water from neighbours. Their living conditions have been dire for many years now.

Your Zakat is paying for Musa’s education.

Musa’s family had no money to pay for school fees and other associated costs. Islamic Relief’s Orphan Sponsorship Programme has allowed him to attend school. Your Zakat pays for his fees, his school uniform and a school bag.

“My friends are always asking me who bought this new school uniform and bag for me. Alhamdulillah, I tell them that I have someone taking care of me as if I was their own son.”

He dreams of a brighter future, one in which he can help lift his mother’s burdens and help take care of his family.

Musa and his mother continuously praying for those who have helped them.

“May Allah make you among the people who will meet the Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w) since he said: ‘I and the one who looks after an orphan, will be together like’ this raising (by way of illustration) his fore and middle finger jointly leaving no space in between.

Your Zakat has changed Musa’s life.
