Around 300,000 people have left their homes in Anbar, while half a million have fled Ninewa, amidst fighting in the north and west of Iraq.

Many are seeking safety in the surrounding areas, while others have headed to the Kurdistan region – which is under significant pressure from the influx of refugees fleeing conflict-torn Syria. In the coming days and weeks, both the death toll and the number of displaced families are expected to rise.

This is Iraq’s worst humanitarian crisis since 2006. Islamic Relief has launched an Iraq appeal and is working to support families escaping the violence by providing food, water, and other essential items.
